In 2018, my life changed.

I had just gone through back surgery, and the words my doctor spoke felt like a punch to the gut:
“You might not be able to run again.”

For someone who lived for movement… someone who found clarity, strength, and peace in every step… those words cut deep. It felt like a part of my identity was slipping away. And for a moment, I believed him. I felt broken. Lost. Defeated.

But not for long.

Because deep down, something in me refused to accept that story.
I wasn’t ready to let go of the version of me that felt strong and alive.
I wasn’t ready to surrender my body — or my spirit.


Taking the First Step Back

My comeback didn’t begin with a big dramatic moment.
There was no finish line, no cheering crowd, no medal waiting for me.

It began with one shaky step out the front door.

One step.
Then another.
And another.

They were slow.
They were uncomfortable.
Some days they were frustrating.

But I kept going — not because it was easy, but because the alternative was quitting. And quitting was never an option.

Over time, those shaky steps turned into strides.
Strides turned into confidence.
Confidence turned into strength — not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

And throughout that journey, I learned something powerful:

Movement isn’t just exercise. Movement is medicine.

  • It rebuilds your body.
  • It clears your foggy mind.
  • It lifts the emotional weight you’ve been carrying.
  • And eventually, it reconnects you with the strongest version of yourself — the version you thought you lost.

Fast forward to today.

I’m 54, and I feel stronger, healthier, and more alive than I did BEFORE surgery.
That comeback didn’t just change my body — it changed my purpose.

That purpose became:


My Time Fitness – The Great Canadian Running Challenge.

I created this challenge because no one should have to fight their battles alone.
Because everyone deserves a chance to rebuild.
Because strength doesn’t come from perfection — it comes from showing up.

And I wanted to share the truth I learned the hard way:

You can come back.
You can become stronger.
You can rise, rebuild, and reinvent yourself — at any age.

You don’t need to be an athlete.
You don’t need to be fast.
You don’t need to know where to start.

You just need the courage to take that first step — even if it’s messy, wobbly, or slow.


It’s Not Just a Challenge — It’s a Movement

This challenge has never been about running alone. It’s so much bigger than that.

It’s about feeling GOOD in your body again.
It’s about rebuilding confidence you didn’t know you lost.
It’s about waking up with energy, purpose, and pride.
It’s about proving to yourself — one kilometre at a time — that you are capable of so much more than you ever believed.
